The central pontoon at the MV Conway Castle's mooring sank last Saturday. Mick Pane and diver Ian Cundy started work at 8am to recover the pontoon. Watched by a variety of people throughout the day, the work progressed slowly but steadily. Once the pontoon was well out of the water it was allowed to drain to reduce the weight for the crane. A sling was then attached to the lower end, and the Conway Castle & the Coles Crane working together, got the pontoon floating ready for the Marina work boat to tow to the Marina slipway. Unfortunately the pontoon promptly sank and as the Marina boat towed it to the bank just beyond the Swan Hotel, it turned upside down.
