July 27th, Prince Charles visits Upton

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall visited Upton today. They went into the White Lion, walked down New Street to meet Upton's Firemen, and talked to members of the public in their doorways. Residents met them at the bottom of New Street. They then went along High Street, again talking to people who were waiting to see them, and went into the Anchor Inn to inspect the damage. When they came out they met Environment Agency staff, representatives from local businesses and the Blues Festival (Richard presented Prince Charles with a Blues Festival T-shirt!), and volunteers from Mercia Inshore Search and Rescue, Tourism & Trade and me(!). They then got back into their car, but got out again and went to the riverfront and into the Kings Head.

I think the visit will give a boost to morale in the town - not that it is low, but it is nice to be remembered.
