Community Pride20th & 28th March 2009Upton Community Pride organised a planting session at East Waterside. The shrubs will screen the area from the road and the underside of the viaduct, a second block of shrubs were planted on the opposite side of the green, creating an enclosed site that people can just relax in. Ground cover plants were added to the tunnel entrance to Fish Meadow. The mixture of shrubs and ground cover will add colour to the area as well as providing habitat sites for birds and insects. The planting scheme was designed by Wade Muddelton of Worcestershire Countryside Service. Two members of staff from WCS and volunteers from UCP, Upton in Bloom and children from Upton Primary School helped with the planting throughout the day. The plants were funded by donations from Cemex, Door Panels, Midland Communications, and Tingdene Marina. The mulch came from branches pruned from trees at the Old Road entrance to the Sports Field, which were shredded by a contractor for Upton Town Council. Malcolm Brown, Upton's Tree Warden, will be shortly be asking for more volunteers to help finish off the planting. On 28th March, volunteers and Community Service finished off the planting. |
