| 7th | Annual General Meeting. At a well attended meeting, Jackie Surtees was elected Chairman, and Simon Wilkinson Treasurer. Existing members of the Committee agreed to keep Upton in Bloom going for another year and enter the Heart of England in Bloom 2011. The Chairman's Report was read out. Our first meeting for the 2011 season will be at the White Lion Hotel on Wednesday 13th October at 7.00pm. | 2nd | Our annual Duck Race at the Folk Festival proved very popular. The ducks were started off by being dropped from the bridge and finished opposite the back of the MV Conway Castle. It was a very fast race as the river was flowing swiftly. | |

| 29th | On Saturday we spread 6X fertiliser on the Sensory Garden, and the Matthew Wilson bed, and today the Council staff spread wood chippings over both beds. The chippings came from the Cemetery following hedging and tree work - a nice bit of recycling! | |

| 27th | We are meeting by the riverside beds, near the Pelican Crossing on Hanley Road at 2pm. We are expecting a load of well-rotted horse manure, (weather permitting) donated by David Jeynes from Welland. Volunteers to help spread the manure will be most welcome! | |

| A very generous donation of £191.25 was received from Jane Bayliss. The money was collected in memory of Jane's Mother, Hilda. Mrs Bayliss lived in Upton for fifty seven years. She loved flowers and Jane and her sister felt that Upton in Bloom was a good cause. We will be discussing how to best use the donation with a view to providing a lasting memorial to Mrs Bayliss. Thank you very much to Jane and her sister. | ||
| Our Memorial Tree was lit on 19th December. Grahame and Claire Bunn, Landlords at the Kings Head have generously allowed us to plug the lights into their electricity supply. Rowan Thomas loaned the lights and cables, without which we couldn't provide this means of remembering loved ones. Thank you to Grahame, Claire and Rowan. | ||

| 21st | We had a busy day with a Table Top Sale in the Memorial Hall and the Community Action Charity Fair in Malvern. Both fundraising events were very successful, and we would like to thank everyone who supported us. Pictures Report in the Malvern Gazette | |

| w/e 7th | During the last week we finished clearing the Summer displays & planted 2,000 mini-daffodil bulbs in them. Yesterday, together with volunteers, we planted Winter Pansies in all the boats and tubs. Brian, with a bit of help from Jackie, had delivered over 250 trays of six pansies to all the display areas, ready for planting. The planting took just over an hour. | |

| 16th-22nd | We moved the riverside tubs back. The tubs have now been planted with pansies for the Winter. Three tubs have Cyclamen in them. These were planted last year, and left in place during the Summer. We moved all the remaining ones into the three tubs. Weeding along the riverfront continued. The bed on the right hand side of the Kings Head gates was tidied. | |
| 15th | We attended a Charity Fair in Malvern, selling containers of plant arrangements. | |
| 10th | The Environment Agency moved the riverside tubs to safety in anticipation of the barriers going up between the Kings Head & The Plough, for which many thanks. | |

Planted pansies in Hanley Road, Marina & Old Churchyard boats, and tubs at either end of the bridge. Several youths helped us by taking bags of Greengrow out of Sylvia's truck and emptying them into the boat on the Old Churchyard and many thanks to them, and the lady who helped Rosemary& Jackie pull the truck to the OC from New Street. We received a donation of Greengrow from Severn Waste Services, for which many thanks. Thanks also to the gentlemen at the Recycling Centre and the delivery driver for helping offload the bags. |
