Upton in Bloom hosted the Heart of England in Bloom Autumn Seminar on 16th October 2008. Over 90 delegates from the Heart of England region attended. We had arranged with MHDC Street Scene that delegates could park in an area of Hanley Road car park, displaying a pass in the window - thanks to MHDC. Upton in Bloom Committee members and Friends of UiB were on hand to help delegates. Upton Town Council provided the Memorial Hall, and some lovely floral displays, made by Heidi at Pepperpot Flowers (picture below). Earls Croome Garden Centre provided the troughs on the stage (picture below). Thanks to UTC, Pepperpot Flowers & Earls Croome. The delegates started arriving at about 10am and were provided with tea & coffee - very welcome to those who had travelled a long way to get here. They were all given a 'goody bag', with information leaflets from many local businesses, a chocolate from Cromwells and an Upton News. The Seminar got under way at 10.30am. Following addresses from the Chairman Les Goodman, and co-ordinator Jenny Redfern, UiB showed their film of 'Upton in Bloom on TV' - excerpts from programmes during and after the July 2007 floods in which they starred! A very interesting talk by Guest Speaker Simon Lowen of Ball Colgrave, wholesale distributors of seed and plants was followed by a showing of the 'Summer of 2007' DVD, produced by Peter Booth, which was very well received. The delegates then went for a superb buffet, provided by the White Lion Hotel. The UiB Committee would like to thank Jon and Chris for their very generous offer to put on the buffet, it was much appreciated and there were many good comments about it. At the afternoon session the delegates split up in to groups for workshops with the Judges. UiB would like to thank everyone who helped on the day, sponsors & volunteers. |
