Week commencing 15th JanuaryNo brickwork could be carried out early in the week due to heavy frosts. Work recommenced on laying the facing bricks mid-week and most of both sides of the wall between the Kings Head & The Plough has been completed. Loads of large granite stones are being transported from a quarry near Leicester to form a platform in the river alongside The Swan. This will be finished off with large bags of sand. The platform will allow machinery to work on the wall from the river rather than the road which proved unstable in 2010. The remains of two, or possibly three, bridges have been found opposite the Kings Head and on Friday the public and children from Upton Primary School were able to go into the area and various features were described by members of the EA Archaeological section. View the archaeology.
