Planning for Real - 2000

'Planning for Real' is an eye-catching, 'hands on' method of planning which allows people to be involved in the design and development of their town. A large 3D model of the area is made, allowing people to take a 'birds eye' view and to perhaps see things which they may not have otherwise noticed.

Option cards are then placed on the model, putting forward ideas for the area, and coloured pins are used to agree or disagree with these suggestions.

Local schoolchildren and members of Queensmead Resident Association created a large map of the town and invited members of the public to help with ideas for Upton's future.

The 'Planning for Real' was visited by the Town Mayor, Cllr Ernie Holder and his wife, who showed a lot of interest in the project, and made comments of their own.

A close-up of the central area of the town which attracted many comments - especially High Street and Old Street.
