| Peter also wrote to the District Councillors to remind them. Not surprisingly, the only DC who came was Mary Wilkinson, who as one of Upton's District Councillors did actually support her constituents. There must have been at least a dozen people came to use the toilets whilst we were there.

Sorry no chance.
If UPTON TOWN COUNCIL had not been so stuborn and agreed to take on the cleaning and maintenance of these toilets, then you would not have found yourselves in this position. I suspect that if one looked at the financial figures closely and was prudent, it would indicate that Upton Town council would NOT have had to raise its precept by a massive amount to have taken the Toilets on and if everone in UPTON are so keen to keep them , they would not have minded paying, especially as the MHDC LIB/DEM group have worked damn hard to bring the revenue budget under controll and keep it there. Which means that the good rate payers of Upton will only be paying a 1.9% rise to us this year instead of the 4.5% the other authorities are imposing, and hence could have afforded to have paid a bit extra to Upton to keep the toilets. You must remember we are a district council and therefore have to represent all the people of the district.
Give me one good reason why the people of Astley, Wichenford , Kempsey etc etc should pay to keep two sets of toilets open in Upton when in all probability they will never make use of them.

Unfortunately I have picked up your email too late. I hope however that your photo call was a successful occasion and will be continuing to support efforts to have Tuesday's decision overturned. |
