Reopening Ceremony

Over 100 people attended the ceremony to reopen the Lower High Street Public Conveniences. Members of the public were joined by County Councillor Bob Bullock, Chairman of MHDC Councillor Susan Gill, Leader of MHDC Councillor Serena Croad, District Councillors Mike Morgan and Syd Harrison, Upton Town Mayor Councillor Tim Perry, Upton Deputy Town Mayor Councillor Paul Thompson, members of Upton Town Council, members of MHDC Street Scene, Chairman of UTTA Peter Webb, Chairman of Upton Folk Festival Richard Hannah.

A Jazz band played 'Down by the Riverside' before Cllr Croad cut the ribbon, and the murals were moved apart to display the opened toilets.

Bemused visitors to the town were informed of the background to the ceremony!

Rosemary Webb is to be congratulated on organising the opening, with champagne provided by local hostelries - all of whom appreciate the toilets being opened, as do locals and visitors. Following the opening, attendees were invited to the Memorial Hall by the Town Council for tea & cakes.

The Conservative Party promised to reopen the toilets if they were elected. They were, and they have. A triumph for democracy!
