13th May 2004 As a pedestrian, I was at the bridge end of the viaduct and noticed a car and caravan heading the queue of traffic waiting at the other end, by the Marina. The lights obviously changed to green at the other end as the car & caravan moved into the roadway. It stopped. The driver got out and had a look, then walked around the front of his car, looked again, got back into his car and started moving forward very slowly. The lights at this end turned to green and cars started moving until I held up my hand to stop them. The lights turned to red again. Several people got out of their cars to see what was happening. The lights turned green, still the car and caravan were moving along the road. When eventually the car and caravan exited from the restricted area some very irate motorists set up ironic clapping as they came past. The lights turned red. The queue from the lights by this time was back into the Hanley Road. This type of behaviour seems to happen quite often and I wonder how many motorists are held up for much longer than they should be because of the thoughtlessness and selfishness of others who think that the restrictions are not for them? On the same day I saw a pickup truck and a van avoid the bollards on the roundabout by going up the right-hand side of them. ![]() Views expressed on these pages are my own. |
