Anyone who sees her is asked to call Mrs Tanner on 01684 296227. 22nd January I've just uploaded the final pictures of this week's work on the riverside flood defences. 21st January The Upton Town Partnership would like to invite you to the Annual General Meeting. It is on Wednesday 1st February at 7.30pm in the Council Chamber at The Memorial Hall. The agenda will be issued shortly. Quite a few people say 'What is the Town Partnership?' - this is your chance to go to the AGM and find out. 20th January I've added some pictures of the old bridges exposed by the archaeologists to the above link. Information on the results of archaeological excavations will be available during the day. The Environment Agency will be hosting a 'Heritage Day' from opposite the Kings Head, starting at 10am. More information can be found on the link to the flood defence work on the riverside above. 19th January Some information on Earls Croome WI can be seen from the above link. 18th January Information on stalls at the Folk Festival has been added to their site, available from the Links menu. 17th January A slight amendment has been made to the EA press release, 'Bridge Street' should be Lower High Street. The stone that is being used to build up the bank alongside the Swan is being brought from a quarry in Leicester. 16th January The latest newsletter about the riverside flood defences issued by the EA can be seen from the above link. An archaeology day has been organised for Friday 20 January from 10am - 4pm, with experts on site to answer all your questions. Some pictures, and videos of it chasing the resident swans from the above link. 10th January NHS Worcestershire press release says Upton Surgery will be presented with a national award for their work in supporting carers in the county. There are no warnings on the EA website referring to the river Severn now. 9th January An article in the Malvern Gazette regarding the repainting of the bridge can be seen from the above link. Although the 'road closed' sign is still at the bottom of New Street, I couldn't see any water on the road up to the second bend in the road. There doesn't seem to be much mud either. 8th January No change in New Street land, and the river is still high but doesn't seem to have risen. 7th January New Street lane is closed from beyond the back of Hanley Road car park as the road is flooded. The river is still nowhere near overflowing the banks, and the EA's page is not showing any forecast of floods. 6th January The MHDC Events List has been updated and can be seen from the above link. An update from the EA: "Although river levels are still slowly rising, we are not currently expecting any river flooding in Upton over this weekend. Therefore, we will not need to erect the temporary barriers along the Waterfront. However, we will continue to monitor the levels over the weekend and into next week. There will be staff present in Upton at times over the weekend. They will be calibrating water levels against river level guages up and downstream for the operation of the new flood gate. This will give us better information for the operational triggers for the furture closure of the new gate." 5th January The river has risen since yesterday, but is still a long way from coming over the banks. A Poplar tree is a casualty of the high winds we've had yesterday & today. There are no flood warnings on the EA website. 3rd January Upton Doctors require Healthcare Cleaners to work as part of a small team at The Surgery. A link to the Doctor's website from Links on the menu. Upton in Bloom are hoping to organise a trip to the National Memorial Arboretum in May. If you would be interested in this, more details from the link above. 2nd January The final draw of the first year of Upton in Bloom's 100 Club took place. The 6-monthly draw was also made with the winning number drawn by Jon Lear at the White Lion Hotel. The winner was Brian Williams, who grows all the flowers for the floral displays. 1st January A Happy New Year to all our visitors! 30th December A Job Club is starting up at Upton Library on 16th January.
